Supercharger
Active multi
function on-board preamp
and volume booster

Ever wish that when you engage the coil tap function on your favorite axe the
volume wouldn't go down? Well here is a little device that will not
only solve that problem but it will even let you
adjust how much or how little volume change will take place. The Rowan
Supercharger
is a small
on-board preamp which contains two
adjustable trim pots that provide a means of balancing the output
of a humbucker style pickup when one
coil is grounded so the customary loss of volume
can be overcome. The ability to do this eliminates the need to have custom "stagger wound"
pickups made in order to deal with the volume
loss problem.
The
Supercharger
is actually two preamps on one board
allowing individual adjustment for the neck and bridge pickups on any guitar
equipped
with two humbucker style pickups capable of being
tapped. With the trim pots turned to their lowest setting, no signal boost
is applied to the
selected pickup coil. As the trim pot is turned
up, gain is applied to the coil signal increasing its ability to drive the
preamp section of your amp
thus increasing the volume. It is possible to
adjust the output level so no perceptible loss in volume is detected when the
coils are split. If
the pot is turned to its maximum setting the
Supercharger
will provide up to + 18db volume boost.
The possible uses for the
Supercharger
are limited only by your imagination. Use it as a means of balancing
output, or use it as a "solo boost"
adding
just enough volume increase to let you cut through. It will also function
as an on-board preamp for piezo pickups. Because it is
essentially two amps on one board, you can split its
duties and use one side as a balancing feature and the other as a boost or solo enhancer.
The
Supercharger
is designed to provide the following
features;
1. Adjustable gain for the tapped coil mode with noiseless switching between
gain and
no-gain modes.
2. A total gain boost of up to + 18db.
3. Operation from standard 9 volt alkaline battery.
4. Battery disconnected when cable is removed from guitar jack.
5. Battery life in excess of 1200 hrs.
6. Protection against reversed battery connection.
7. Protection against accidental inputs to the output jack, such as static
charges or
plugging into another output.
8. Requires no cosmetic modifications to your guitar for installation.
9. Operates via push/pull pot or mini toggle switch.
10. Small footprint of 1" x 1-1/2".
The Supercharger includes a prewired output jack, battery connector and complete installation instructions.
The push/pull pots and mini toggle switch are not supplied and may be obtained
